A day of forts...

Off this morning to visit one of the many forts that reside in the Oman
oasis's. The first fort was Bahla Fort just outside Nizwa and the second fort was 45 km away at Jabrin.

Both forts have now been magnificently restored to their former glory using the same techniques and materials (clay, animal hair, hay, stones, lime and animal poo) that have been used for 1000s of years. There is a team of 600 craftsmen and women moving around the country's treasures. I get the feeling we are here 20 years to early to see all the Oman treasures.

The first thing u notice about these forts is how cool they are as u immediately walk in. The walls are thick and each structure is built around a central opening the draws the air in. The second thing is the defences, gaps above the doors to pour boiling date syrup down, false floors, hidden floors, and a series of doors that never open the same way.

The temp today was 36.
